The DEATA framework

Five checks before you use AI

DEATA gives people a simple, memorable sequence to work through whenever AI is part of the task. Each check is a question learners can ask themselves in the moment.

  1. 01

    Data

What information am I about to share?

Recognise when a prompt, file or upload contains confidential, personal, client or commercially sensitive information before it leaves your hands.

  2. 02

    Environment

Is this the right tool for this work?

Distinguish between approved workplace tools and public or personal AI services, and understand why the setting matters as much as the task.

  3. 03

    Access

What can this tool reach, and should it?

Think carefully before granting an AI assistant access to email, files, calendars or business systems, and keep that access proportionate.

  4. 04

    Trust

Can I rely on what it produced?

Treat AI output as a draft. Check facts, figures, sources and tone before it informs a decision or reaches a customer or colleague.

  5. 05

    Action

    What should happen next?

Know when to proceed, when to pause for human review, and when to raise a concern with your manager or governance team.

The course

Ten workplace decisions, one clear way of thinking

Learners join Northstar Group, a fictional company, and work through ten workplace AI challenges. Each one asks them to make a governance call and then shows them what good judgement looks like.

  1. Step 1

    See the situation

Each challenge opens with a realistic workplace moment at Northstar Group, a fictional company.

  2. Step 2

    Make the governance call

Learners decide what to do, applying the five DEATA checks to the scenario in front of them.

  3. Step 3

    Get feedback

Immediate feedback explains the reasoning, with practical tips for governing everyday AI use.

  4. Step 4

    Learn what was missed

Each scenario highlights the risks that were easy to overlook, then moves on to the next challenge.

FAQ

Common questions

How long does the course take?

Approximately 15 minutes for most learners. The course is built around short, realistic scenarios rather than long reading or video segments.

Who is the course designed for?

Corporate employees, managers and business teams who use, or are starting to use, AI tools in their work. No technical background is required.

What is the DEATA framework?

DEATA is a set of five checks to make before using AI at work: Data, Environment, Access, Trust and Action. Learners practise applying each check to workplace scenarios.

How was the course created?

The course was built with AI, with a trained AI governance professional in the loop guiding and reviewing the content. It is the same approach the course teaches: use AI where it helps, and keep a human accountable for the result.

How is the course delivered?

As a SCORM 1.2 package that you upload to your own LMS. Straight after payment you are given a private download link, which works for 7 days. The package is not publicly available on this website.

Will it work with our LMS?

The package is built to the SCORM 1.2 standard, which most corporate learning management systems support. Because LMS configurations vary, please test the package in your LMS before assigning it to learners. If you have questions about your platform, contact us before purchasing.

How does licensing work?

You pay A$4.99 per learner, once, for an ongoing licence. A learner is anyone in your organisation who takes or views the course. The minimum is 10 learners, and you can buy more at any time. Full terms are set out in the licence terms.

What if we need more than 4,000 learners?

Contact us for enterprise pricing. We can discuss larger learner numbers, multiple entities or other arrangements.

Are prices in Australian dollars, and is GST included?

Yes. All prices on this site are shown in Australian dollars (A$). No GST is charged.

Can we get a refund?

There are no refunds once the SCORM package has been made available to you, either on the order confirmation page or by email. This does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Is this an accredited or certified course?

No. It is practical awareness training designed to build everyday judgement about AI use, rather than a formal qualification. It is not accredited by any government or professional body, and completing it does not certify compliance with any law or standard. It works best alongside your organisation's own AI and data policies.

Can we preview the course before buying?

The preview video on this page shows the look and approach of the course. If you would like to discuss a more detailed preview for your evaluation team, please get in touch.
